The Future is Green

Tuesday 28th June 2011, University Campus Suffolk, Ipswich

The ambition for Suffolk to be the greenest county in the country took a step closer to reality recently as the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce launched their new Low Carbon Development Unit (LCDU).

The Unit will be developing a Low Carbon Business Network which will include a ‘one stop shop’ where any business in Suffolk can get advice and support for ‘greening’ their business.

To celebrate the successes that have taken place recently in the County, Suffolk Chamber’s Energywise network will be hosting a special event on 28th June showcasing some of the local businesses who have recently received rewards and recognition for their dedication to reducing carbon emissions and to become more energy efficient.

The event will be held at University Campus Suffolk from 8.30am to 2pm and will give businesses the chance to find out more from fellow business people about how various green initiatives can help to save you money and make you more attractive to your customers, along with information about the funding and support that is currently available.

The workshops will be run on an informal basis, with plenty of time for you to ask questions and to discuss ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint.

Businesses taking part include Suffolk Carbon Charter and Creating the Greenest County award winners and :

  • CPW Computing –  a small and friendly multi-award winning company that supplies and supports networks, computers and software. As an innovative and forward-looking business, CPW Computing takes its duty to care for the environment very seriously

  • Earth & Reed  - suppliers of environmentally-responsible building and decorating materials that embody their commitment to protecting the environment - including their own line of Suffolk Green Paints

  • Lattice Lodge - offers 4* bed and breakfast accommodation and aims to minimise its impact upon the environment and to support the local economy by sourcing locally and ethically where possible, and reducing waste through careful purchasing, recycling, composting, and trying to avoid disposable goods

  • Gotelee - a leading firm of solicitors who have achieved dramatic achievements in reducing their energy consumption. With a clear environmental policy, Gotelee are environmental ambassadors for Suffolk, influencing their customers, supply chain and the wider community

There will also be advisors from the following initiatives, along with businesses who have already been involved who would like to talk about their experiences:

  • Groundwork East of England

  • Resource Efficiency East

  • Low Carbon Champions

Come along to celebrate the good practice already taking place in Suffolk and to find out more about how you can become more involved.

The fee to attend is £12.50 and Chamber members (including EEP members) have the benefit of paying the reduced fee of £10 to attend. The event includes refreshments and a buffet lunch.
